Mitchell A. Dix is the founder of Mitchell A. Dix & Associates. His practice encompasses all aspects of business, real estate, cooperative and condominium law, with a specialty serving as general counsel to over seventy-five cooperative and condominium boards throughout the New York metropolitan area. His articles and interviews on a wide range of legal issues have appeared in publications including THE NEW YORK TIMES, REAL ESTATE WEEKLY AND HABITAT MAGAZINE. He has authored a regular column for CONNECTIONS, a publication of the Riverdale co-op community addressing the concerns of cooperative shareholders. Dix regularly lectures for various community organizations and trade groups and has been a recurring guest speaker at both Habitat Magazine’s Board Leadership Conferences and the Annual Housing Conferences of the Council of New York Cooperatives since 1990.
As Mayor of the Incorporated Village of Hewlett Neck for 14 years, Dix spearheaded and successfully completed several major municipal projects, including upgrading of the Village water systems, road surfaces and lighting, without increasing Village taxes, revamped aging Village Codes to meet modern day challenges, renegotiated agreements with contractors and service providers to preserve competitive pricing, and worked cooperatively with local police departments, fire departments and other elected officials on numerous community based initiatives. Elected as the first Village Justice of Hewlett Neck, he continues to apply his expertise of the law to the interpretation and application of the Village Code and other laws, rules and regulations that govern the Village and its residents on a daily basis.
Dix received his Juris Doctor from the University of Buffalo in 1979. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of the City of New York and the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
